Amaranta Hank
Amaranta Hank: journalism and media work
Before her books and later public roles, Omaña explored different ways of working in the media. Her interviews describe how writing became her preferred medium.
Trying television and radio
In her 2018 conversation with Alberto Gayo, Omaña recalled studying communication at the Universidad de Pamplona in Cúcuta. A Spanish teacher had encouraged her to consider that course.
She initially imagined becoming a presenter. Working with the university’s television channels gave her experience of that format; radio was another experiment. She said neither interested her as much as writing.
A first article about the border
A journalist contacted her through her activity on Twitter and asked her to pose for a magazine. Omaña replied that she wanted to write instead.
The article she submitted concerned the border region she knew and was published by SoHo. In a later conversation with John Better, she remembered beginning to write at eighteen and moving from magazine articles to chronicles.
Editing and local communication
Her professional record includes text editing and work as a press officer. The Senate biography also lists directing community media and working in digital communication.
She discussed publishing work in the 2018 interview, including editing fiction and coordinating a book fair. These were roles involving other writers and local audiences alongside her own articles.
